I am Stepan Liubimov, a director, cinematographer, and editor working in both narrative and documentary filmmaking. I founded Video-For-Art.com, a production company that creates films for independent artists, theaters, museums, and other cultural institutions. My visual documents of performance are works of art in themselves, and I naturally gravitate toward working with artists as the subjects of my films.
My films include A Dedication to the Teacher, a portrait of ballet coach Lyudmila Kovaleva in Saint Petersburg; The Imaginary Museum of Mikhail Shemyakin: 60 Years of Research, a documentary about the artist’s lifelong project exploring visual archetypes across cultures and centuries through comparative analysis of art; The Courier, a portrait of artists during Covid, which received the Grand Prix at the Bordeaux Documentary Film Festival; and White Dot, an experimental dance film and finalist at the Context Dance Film Festival.
I have produced more than two dozen films in Russia, France, Germany, and across the United States. I live in New York.
